Preparing AC For Autumn

Fall has now arrived, but is your home and air conditioning unit ready for this season? From landscaping to painting, home improvement projects can keep you very busy on the weekends, but it is important to remember to take care of one of the most important systems in your home, your air conditioning unit.

We will discuss the five HVAC maintenance tips to make sure your air conditioning unit is ready for this fall.

1. Replace or Clean Your Air Filter
Just like the air filter in your car, your HVAC filter keeps the internal components running smoothly and efficiently. It is often located at the return air grill in the central room in your house. The filter may also be in the unit itself inside the blower or on the bottom, top, or side of the unit.

2. Check Your Thermostat

How is your thermostat working? Does it respond properly and keep your home at the right temperature? If you have an older mechanical one, you may want to consider switching to a programmable thermostat. These are more efficient and can help you save money on your monthly utility bills.

3. Maintain The Area Around Your Outside Air Conditioning Unit

Make sure your outside unit has plenty of room to breathe. Plants, vines, and shrubs grow pretty fast in Florida, and it is important to keep these clear of your HVAC unit to allow sufficient airflow.

4. Clean Your Interior Vents and Grilles

Check all of the vents and grilles in your home and dust or vacuum them to help with maximum airflow. This along with a clean air filter, can help keep the interior air quality in your home at its best. This is particularly important for homes that have young children, older relatives, or individuals with compromised immune systems.

5. Schedule Preventative Maintenance
